In 2009, Mariko Mori dreamt of a glistening halo atop a serene waterfall, an image so striking that it was engrained in her mind and inspired her to imagine Faou’s next project. While working on another exhibition in Brazil and well aware of its natural treasures, Mori embarked on a search for the ideal location to realize this vision. She then visited 30 sites over five years before discovering Véu da Noiva—the exact waterfall from her dream—which would become the permanent home of the new installation, Ring: One with Nature. This waterfall, meaning “Veil of the Bride,” and located in Muriqui, Mangaratiba, in Rio de Janeiro State is the perfect site to feature the radiant nine-foot, ten-inch-diameter Ring, suspended at the peak of the 190-foot-high cascade.

Ring: One with Nature by Mariko Mori was completed in 2016 and is on permanent view to the public in Cunhambebe State Park in Muriqui, Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro State, as gifted by Faou to INEA and the State of Rio de Janeiro. As the sun illuminates Ring from different angles, it changes in color from hues of blue to gold, an effect achieved using new technology developed in Japan through innovation by Mori with other collaborators. The work premiered August 2nd, with the full endorsement of the Celebra Cultural Program of the Rio Olympic Games and remains a legacy of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ring Print is commemorative of Ring: One with Nature.
